I have been keeping notes on a few of the funny things that my baby girl says these days. Here are just a few recent favorites:
She was talking to her Mimi one day about mermaids. She stopped, looked up at Mimi and said "Mimi, can we pause the mermaid talk? I have to go pee."
We recently took a trip to Florida to see the space shuttle launch and to visit Disney World. (More pictures from that trip to come). On our first night in the hotel, Hannah runs to the phone in our room (this was only her second or third time ever in a hotel room and the other times, she was still just a toddler) and says "Wow - look guys - a phone in our room!!"
She was so excited when we told her she could play with it. She picked the phone up, put it to her ear and got this crazy, confused look on her face. She shouted with absolute amazement "Daddy, the phone is buzzing!"
It was at that precise moment that Mike and I realized that she had never heard a dial tone before. We don't have a land line phone in our house and it never occurred to us that cell phones don't have a dial tone. Needless to say, she was enthralled with the 'buzzing' of the phone for the entire trip.
One of Hannah's favorite movies these days is the Princess and the Frog. In the movie, one of the Southern Belle characters says in her best southern accent "It's so hot, I am sweatin' like a sinner in church!" And in true Hannah form, she now goes around repeating this line every chance she gets, but in her own translation, of course: "Sweatin' like a sim-a-nin church."
Now, to make some sense of this, I will help translate Hannah's version for you: "Sweatin' like a cinnamon church" is what she actually intends to say. And, of course, it clearly needs even further translation because why on earth would cinnamon be sweating in church, you ask?
Well, first of all, Hannah apparently cannot hear very well, because she thinks that the line IS "Sweatin' like a cinnamon church." And secondly, she can't say cinnamon correctly, so she simply calls it 'sim-a-nin'. There are several reasons why this little saying gets so messed up coming out of my five year old's mouth, but the funniest part is that she says it ALL the time. And, mostly it NEVER has anything at all to do with being hot. She just throws it out in any old conversation she can, whenever the mood strikes her. And that is precisely what I love about her!
