Through the eyes of a child

Not long ago, I took Hannah to see Disney on Ice. It consisted of four mini-shows: Cars, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Tinkerbell.

As I watched these classic Disney fantasies come to life in front of me, I realized that in Hannah’s eyes, these shows were not fantasy at all. They are, in fact, her reality. It dawned on me that in the beautiful blue eyes of my three year old, all of her fantasies are real and actually quite possible.

The princess stories that she has come to know, memorize and adore are the basis for much of what she knows to be good and true. She knows of no other option.

Isn’t it enlightening how anything is feasible through the eyes of a child? A mermaid who turns into a human, so that she may live happily ever after with her soul mate. A sleeping princess who is awakened by her Prince Charming’s kiss. A fairy who flutters around Pixie Hollow trying to figure out her magical place in the Pixie world.

Her innocence enables her to believe in magic potions, fairy godmothers, wicked witches, singing lobsters and carriages turning back into pumpkins at the stroke of midnight. To her, that’s how life should be. It should be full of wands and sparkles and “Bippity Boppity Boos.”

My girl is a believer in fairy tales and dreams coming true. As her mother, I can only hope that she holds on tight to those beliefs for a very, very long time.

Anything is possible, my love. Even fairies and pixie dust.
