One Friday afternoon, I was in the kitchen getting dinner ready (yes, occasionally, I DO cook on a Friday night - but that’s not the point of this post, so let’s regain focus here, folks) while Mike and Hannah were outside.
Mike walks into the kitchen and says “Your daughter (make note of the use of the word your here) was just outside, buck naked, peeing in the middle of the front yard.”
Apparently, she had to go. Up until this point, though, we had never known Hannah to want to pull her pants down and try to go to the bathroom in the wonderful outdoors, so naturally, we were curious as to the cause.
Upon more examination, we learned that she and her babysitter, Sydney, were at the park earlier that day when Hannah had the sudden urge to go. Being far from a bathroom, Sydney took Hannah around the side of a building and had her squat down to relieve herself.
What Sydney apparently did not do, though, was explain to Hannah that this was an exception to the rule and was only to be done in the most extreme circumstances. Or, if she did explain that to her, Hannah must have assumed that being in our front yard - a few feet from the indoor bathroom - was indeed an extreme circumstance.
Either way, I must strangely admit that I am proud that the kid took care of the situation at hand. Whether it was in front of the whole cul-de-sac or not.
